New and Noteworthy: Apple Sells Over 150,000 AirPort Extreme Products; Adobe's roadmap unveiled; more

Apple Sells Over 150,000 AirPort Extreme Products Apple announced that more than 150,000 AirPort Extreme wireless networking products have been sold this past quarter, a figure which the company says represents nearly half of all 802.11 products the company shipped during the quarter. "Apple was the first computer company to ship 802.11b products with the launch of AirPort in 1999, and now we're the first company to ship 802.11g in volume with AirPort Extreme," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Hardware Product Marketing. "802.11g-based AirPort Extreme runs five times faster than 802.11b, but it's fully backward compatible with the millions of 802.11b Wi-Fi products." More.

Adobe's roadmap unveiled Adobe Systems Inc. this year will extend the capabilities of three core software applications for creative professionals, sources said to eWeek. "Major new versions of Adobe's Photoshop image editor, Illustrator vector-based drawing program and InDesign page-layout application will pack innovative features and enhancements. All three are slated to ship by the fourth quarter, sources said." More.

Opera goes to 7.1 for Windows, Mac version coming CNET reports that Opera Software released a test update to its Web browser for Windows and Linux, and pledged to continue developing its Mac version. "Opera typically releases its Mac version separately and later than its other browsers, but this time the delay was ominous to Mac users. That's because in January, after Apple computer released a beta version of its own browser, Safari, Opera threatened to halt development of its Mac product and urged Apple to prevent that cessation by licensing Opera's code. Apple on Monday updated its test version of Safari." More.
