Apple, Beatles settle trademark dispute The Associated Press reports that Apple Inc. and Apple Corps have settled their longstanding dispute over the Apple name, with Apple Inc. essentially gaining full rights and licensing some back to Apple Corps. "'We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks,' said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. 'It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future.' The agreement may pave the way for the Beatles to finally begin selling their music in digital form via Apple's iTunes Music Store. A deal is rumored to be imminent but details have yet to be announced." More.

Next-Gen 802.11n Wireless LAN: Failure To Launch? InformationWeek hedges on the success of 802.11n relative to 802.11g and 802.11b for wireless network access. "Now that draft 802.11n wireless-LAN products are shipping broadly in PCs, market watchers are asking who will use them. Apple Inc. announced last week that it is enabling .11n silicon, which the company has been shipping quietly in desktop and notebook computers since last fall. [...] Despite all the fuss, 'we won't see .11n take off like we did .11b and .11g, which was for many people the first way they got on the Internet,' said Will Strauss, principal of market watcher Forward Concepts (Tempe, Ariz.). He added, '.11n just does not have the same élan.' Strauss noted that the 100-Mbit/second link will not prove very useful for some time, either in public hotspots or on home networks. '[...] In any case, all the hotspots limit you to a DSL backhaul' of a few megabits/s, Strauss said." More.
