AP reviews Mac mini In an AP review of the Mac mini, Matthew Fordahl praises the computer for its size and price: "The Mac mini is elegant, inexpensive without being cheap, and it's not a magnet for the viruses, worms and other malware floating around the Internet. It could fit in any room as a first, second or third computer. And it plays well with others on a home network. Most of all, it's a low-cost alternative to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows that doesn't carry the learning curve of Linux." More.

Mac mini to spur mini-PC revolution? CNET speculates that the PC industry as a whole is hoping the Mac mini spurs interest in petite PCs: "Big-name PC makers such as HP have so far had little success with small desktops, but the tiny Apple could well create enough buzz to spark new interest among consumers." More.

The best thing at CES? Macworld In his CBS News tech column, Dan Dubno writes that CES was overshadowed this year by Macworld Expo's announcements of the iPod shuffle and Mac mini: "Something was missing at CES, and a week later, at Macworld in San Francisco, we found it: the new Mac Mini and the iPod Shuffle. Apple?s aggressive design celebrated the small and the smaller; and embraced a theme not usually associated with the artisans of Cupertino: CHEAP! Or at least, less expensive." More.

PowerBook G5 rumors The Register reports on hints of a PowerBook G5, found in Apple's own website code: "Right now, the code simply places a 1 x 1-pixel placeholder graphic on the page. The file is called apple_g5_powerbook.gif. That presumably allows Avenue A to count the number of visits to the PowerBook page -- and, indeed, many of the other Apple website sections. all of which contain links to switch.atdmt.com, particularly for the more pro-oriented products. In each case, the URL is different, with the final segment changing to reflect each page's subject matter." More.
