New Power Macs Apple today introduced three new Power Macintosh G4 models with dual-processors ranging in speed from 867 MHz to 1.25 GHz. Apple claims the new dual 1.25GHz G4 runs applications like Adobe Photoshop up to 90 percent faster than a 2.53GHz Pentium 4-based PC. Graphics are powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX on the low-end and Radeon 9000 on the high-end. Prices start at $1599 and scale up to $3299. More.

FileMaker Developer Conference kicks off Yesterday marked the start of the annual FileMaker Developer conference, held this year at the Desert Springs Marriott resort in Palm Desert, California. The conference will feature hands-on technical labs, a product showcase, an overview of developer tools, pre-conference seminars and more than 50 sessions on topics such as building solutions taking advantage of standards (XML, web services, SQL, JDBC), business applications and technical solutions. Among the show's speakers are FileMaker President Dominique Goupil; FileMaker executives Bill Epling, chief financial officer; Chung Le, vice president of product development and Chris Trytten, director of product management. OS X AOL now powered by Netscape AOL has released a new version of its Mac OS X client that contains a browser component based on the Mozilla initiative started by Netscape. According to a ZDNN report, new features in the latest release of AOL for Mac OS X include a message counter that displays the number of new e-mails and instant messages on the AOL icon in the Mac OS X Dock; support for e-mail with rich HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) features; a new search service; and a new welcome screen with one-click access to e-mail. Sprint offers Treo without Mac support Sprint PCS has begun selling the Handspring Treo 300. The device, which was set to retail at Sprint shops and other stores for about $499, has a color display screen and a miniature keyboard. According to initial reports, however, the implementation will not support Macs. More.

Metrowerks opens wireless center ThinkMobile reports that the Metrowerks' Wireless Development Center opened this week at the company's Austin, Texas headquarters. This lab is designed to give its customers access to U.S. lab facilities for testing mobile applications and devices on a live GPRS, GSM, and CDMA wireless network. Customers using the lab facilities have access to the technologies including application servers, routers, firewalls, decoding technology, and a range of mobile devices. More.
