New & Noteworthy: Netscape update; Bar Code Pro; GoLive and 4D; Freehand 10 announced

Netscape Communicator 4.77 is out. It includes a security certificate update and< various bug fixes.

Bar Code Pro 4.0 is UPC code labeling software. This release offers the ability to add Web addresses to bar code graphics, add additional text attached to bar code symbols, and use Veribar for readability verification. It also is compatible with Mac OS 8.5 through 9.1 and the latest versions of Photoshop, InDesign, Freehand, Illustrator, Postscript, Quark and PageMaker. Hundreds of Drop-ins and symbology< variations have been added.

GoLive 5 & 4th Dimension 4D SA, publishers of the 4th Dimension database environment and the WebSTAR Server Suite, announced that they would begin bundling Adobe GoLive 5 with several of their products. The bundle is available for a limited time.

Freehand 10 announced Macromedia has revamped the venerable Freehand application and will release version 10 sometime next month. Freehand 10 is fully Carbonized, and features true contour gradients, new symbol-based brush and spray strokes, smart cursors (like those in Macromedia Flash), the new standard pen tool, and it will preserve Macromedia Flash Backgrounds across layers.
