Apple "plays up" .Mac numbers While reporting that Apple has sold 100,000 subscriptions to its .Mac suite of Internet services, CNET notes that the number "pales in comparison with the estimated 2.5 million people who subscribed to the earlier, free service, known as iTools." More.

Houston, Des Peres coming September 21st Apple will open retial locations in both Houston, Texas and Des Peres, Missouri on September 21st. A preview for journalists will be held at 9:00 AM CDT, with the public grand opening at 10:00 AM CDT.

Apple reorganizing OS development? eWeek reports that Apple is shuffling positions in its Mac OS 9 development group. "In yet another sign that Apple Computer Inc. is winding down its efforts to maintain the classic Mac OS 9 to concentrate on Mac OS X, the company last week quietly reorganized its OS development operation." WebCam spying Wired News reports on a growing phenomenon where hackers use WebCam's to spy on their victims. "Malicious hackers are no longer limited to looking at private data -- now they can also see their victims. Even a relatively unskilled attacker can transform some video-conferencing systems into video-surveillance units, using the devices to snoop, record or publicly broadcast presumably private video conferences." P3P conference announced The W3C has announced a workshop on the future of P3P to be held in Dulles, VA, USA on 12-13 November 2002. Participants will discuss Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) technology and policy. Position papers are due 30 September. Registration is open through October 29th. More.
