Apple employee; Apple to do battle with Sun, Dell

Goodbye, Smiley Mac NPR has an interesting commentary on Apple's decision to stop using the "Smiley Mac" logo in Jaguar, instead opting for the plain Apple logo. An excerpt: "Devoted Macintosh users have lost their beloved screen image of an old Mac with a smiling face that greeted them when starting up from, well, the start up of the Mac. Apple says 'As with everything in Mac OS X Jaguar, the start-up experience has been vastly improved to be fast, simple, and gorgeous.' But users are saddened. We talk to Jonathan Duke of the Boston Mac Users Group about this. He says 'its the end of an era.'" More.

Becoming an Apple emplyee Adam Guttentag details his experience attempting to snag a job at Apple's Cupertino campus. He writes "You know you've thought about it. You go out of your way to drive past the building on your way to work every day. For thirty minutes each morning, you feel like you work there as you wait in traffic with actual Apple employees before you head to your un-magical office park." More.

Apple does battle with Sun, Dell Asia Intelligence Wire reports that after announcing and delivering the Xserve, Apple Computer is venturing into the Philippine server market, eyeing local enterprise and the government for its server product line. "Apple executives said this is the first time that the company, long known as a manufacturer of high-performance personal computers and laptops, is joining the fray in the local server market, currently dominated by such"traditional"server companies such as Sun, Dell, HP-Compaq and IBM."
