Free iMacs: It's (sort of) for real Freemac.com will be giving away one million iMacs this fall. According to several news articles (including one in the New York Times): To get the iMac, you need to sign up for its Internet service, paying $19.95 a month for three years for service. The Times article added: Freemac said it had partnered with Earthlink Network, a major Internet service provider; First USA, the Visa and Mastercard issuing subsidiary of the Bank One Corporation; Cybercash, an electronic commerce company, and Peter Max, the 1960's pop artist, who will serve as spokesman and "chief creativity officer."

MORE returns Recently, there has been news on the Web about the free re-release of classic programs (such as VisiCalc for the PC). We were particularly pleased to see that Symantec had given Dave Winer permission to re-release MORE 1.1c. Back in the 80's, MORE was not only our preferred outliner, but our word processor as well. In our opinion, no newer software has ever matched its features. It was a sad day when Symantec buried this program. This re-release is not the last version of MORE (that was 3.1) and it has not been updated for the latest OS (so expect at least some glitches), but it still works. If you have never seen it before, definitely check it out.

Update: MORE 3.x is also available.

Extensis applications (such as PhotoTools and Portfolio) have been updated to be compatible with Photoshop 5.5.

Mathematica 4.0 "Application Package Update" is out.
