New & Noteworthy: 802.11g takes a big step; Rendezvous support skyrockets; Sony ships new 21-inch monitor

802.11g takes a big step 802.11g, the wireless networking sucessor to Apple's AirPort, has received critical approval according to a CNET report. The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) said Monday that a draft of the standard, 802.11g, passed the first of several votes needed before it's ultimately approved. The IEEE said it intends to finalize the 802.11g standard by May 2003. More.

Rendezvous support skyrockets Several major industry players have announced support for Rendezvous, the Apple-developed technology that uses industry standard networking protocols and zero configuration technology to automatically discover and connect devices over any IP network, including Ethernet and 802.11 wireless networking. At the Apple Expo in Paris, Philips, Canon, Xerox, Sybase and World Book announced support for Rendezvous in current or future products, joining previous Rendezvous adopters Hewlett-Packard, Epson and Lexmark. Sony ships new 21-inch monitor Sony has announced its new 21-Inch FD Trinitron Display, which includes the new Artisan Color Reference System. The Color Reference System is a three-part tool including a display, sensor and calibration software, that Sony says is engineered to deliver stable, accurate and repeatable color results for design applications.
