Netscape Communicator 4.5 PR2 has new glitches not in PR1

John Dokulil describes two problems with Netscape Communicator 4.5 PR2 (running Mac OS 8.1 on a Power Mac 7600):
The Mail Inbox icon on the Component Bar at the bottom right side of the Messenger and Navigator windows does not display properly. When the program is launched, the icon shows that email has not been accessed. But instead of remaining so, the icon changes to another icon showing that email has been accessed, when in fact it has not.

The Mail notification sound does not work at all - no matter which sound is chosen via the Preference menu.

Oddly, neither of the problems occurred in the PR1 version of Communicator 4.5. Another reader, Herb Goldman, confirms the email sound problem. However, several readers report hearing the sound, so your mileage mayvary.

Update: Tan Zheng Da writes: "The observed behavior is not a glitch, it is a feature. If you have 4.5PR2 set up to check mail every x minutes, then when you first start Communicator, you'll see a yellow arrow on the Mail icon of the Component Bar, which indicates that Communicator does not know the status of your mailbox. It will then automatically probe your mail server for new mails. If there's no mail, the yellow arrow will disappear. If you've got mail, the yellow arrow turns green to indicate that you've got mail. The email is not automatically downloaded the first time, but if you click on the green arrow icon it will open INBOX and download your mails. Then, if you have selected "Automatically download any new messages", subsequent periodic checks for mail will also download the new messages and display the green icon. The green icon will disappear when you read your new mails."
