Netscape Communicator 4.06 is out; initial problem reports

CNET staff
Netscape Navigator and Communicator 4.06are out. This is a "small" update, separate from the larger Communicator 4.5 update still in beta. It addresses a memory leak problem (as described here previously) and adds several of the new features in 4.5. Two initial problem reports:
Epson Launcher Eckhard Behme writes: "Communicator 4.5 eliminated the previously covered conflict between Netscape 4.05 and the Epson Launcher. Unfortunately, Communicator 4.06 again quits on start with a Type 2 error. Conflict Catcher 8 puts the blame squarely on the Epson 800 Launcher." [Note" we have previously reported on this problem, and suggested that not starting up to a blank page may work-around it.]

Dynamic fonts Jay Handel writes: "The 4.06 version still will not correctly print pages that use dynamic fonts. Test it out with Bitstream's own Web page. Type is fuzzy and distorted and with the wrong color. I reported this problem to Bitstream in June and was told 'There is a problem in Netscape with printing on the Mac. Netscape is aware of the problem, and will be fixing it in a future release.'" This must not be the release they were talking about. [Note: I have not had reports on how Communicator 4.5 handles this.]
