Netscape 4.07 requires Mac OS 7.6.1 or later?

CNET staff
Numerous readers have found that, when trying to install any version of a Netscape 4.07 browser on a Mac running a system older than 7.6.1, a message pops up that says the Netscape software does not support this version of the system software. Some readers have claimed that the installation will not proceed further (although one reader reported that a Continue button was included with the message that did allow installation to proceed).

Update: Eli Goldberg (of Netscape) informs us that the Continue button should always be present in this message. The message is just a warning "not a forced dismissal. The change was made because of a bug in 4.06, which resulted in CFM-68K being required on 68K Macintoshes; users who installed received an 'unimplemented trap' error upon launching Communicator. When 4.07 came around, we changed the installer so that 7.6.1 was the checked-for minimum version, to save further users from such problems. Users with 68K Macintoshes and who do not with to upgrade to 7.6.1 can more than likely use 4.07 without problems if they download CFM-68K." (A Netscape web page has more info.)
