Netflix just invited Bill Murray to spend Christmas with you

You can plan your holiday viewing early this year. Netflix announces its very own Christmas special -- with a mopey Bill Murray playing himself.

If there's even the slightest slice of your soul that squeals comedy nerd, odds are good that Bill Murray has shined his light upon it. From "SNL" to "Caddyshack" to "Ghostbusters" to "Groundhog Day" to all those weird Wes Anderson movies (both the incredible and insufferable ones), Murray has helped to raise us on laughter over the decades.

So the idea of spending time with him over the winter holidays -- or any holiday, for that matter -- sounds lovely.

On Friday, Netflix announced that it will stream an original Christmas special, "A Very Murray Christmas," for the holiday season. It will feature a star-filled cast including Murray, George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones and Miley Cyrus.

According to Netflix, Murray plays himself as the host of a holiday variety show, but a snowstorm may prevent anyone from showing up, leaving him to mope around. It sounds a bit like a holiday-themed reboot of a classic Murray film that probably makes my list of top three favorite movies -- "Lost in Translation."

Something tells me that everything will work out in his holiday special, especially since the show is being directed by Sofia Coppola, who also directed "Lost in Translation."
