NetDoubler update dropped?

Adam Wunn writes: "I just talked to Asante's tech support manager and he related to me that, in direct opposition to what they said six months ago, Asante will not be fixing the problems with NetDoubler 1.5.1. They have discontinued NetDoubler and will not ever ship an upgrade. He claimed it had to do with the fact that Mac OS 8.1 and 8.5, combined with AppleShare IP 5 and 6, make such a huge improvement that NetDoubler is not needed. However, I suggested that the real reason behind the cancellation is they cannot figure out how to fix the problem. He admitted that to fix the problem would have required a significant effort and the company decided it was not worth it. When asked why Asante has not posted any information as to the discontinuation of the project, his reply was guarded. He admitted that there were not enough 'resources in place to communicate Asante's future plans for NetDoubler.'"

Note: Asante's Web site still says: "New version coming soon."
