Here are all of the new things you can do with your Nest
New partnerships with AT&T, August, Belkin WeMo and SkyBell mean that your Nest can do more than ever before.
Google/Alphabet's Nest announced today that its thermostat, smoke and carbon monoxide detector and security camera now work with a lot more smart home products.
The new partners include August, Lifx, Simplehuman, AT&T, Belkin WeMo, Lutron, Misfit, P&G, Waxman and SkyBell. They're all joining Works with Nest, Nest's developer-friendly software platform that makes it possible for Nest products to work with products from other manufacturers -- think IFTTT, but minus the IFTTT software acting as the intermediary.
For instance, you should now be able to view your Nest Cam feed from the August app. Also, if your Nest Cam detects motion, you can set a rule that would automatically turn on Lifx LED bulbs.
You should also be able to view your Nest Learning Thermostat's details from the AT&T Digital Life app, and if your Nest Protect senses smoke or carbon monoxide, you can program the status button on your SkyBell doorbell to turn red.
It seems that Nest is working hard to appeal to a broader smart home base. Just last week it opened up its Thread protocol in response to the the open-software Amazon Alexa. Stay tuned for Google I/O tomorrow to see if Nest has anything else in the works.
