Not surprisingly, given the focus of this web site, my mailbox is inundated with reports of bugs, conflicts, and assorted other problems that people are having with their hardware and software. That's why it was a refreshing change to get Michael Kinsman's description of his experience with the recently released Myrmidon 2.0: "This is an exceptional piece of software for someone (like me) who wants to prepare documents like a syllabus and put them on the web. The output is identical to the original - all you do is 'print' the document. I have used this software with a syllabus, a 3 column newsletter with an insert in the center, and a very difficult Word document with a complex table in the center of it. Each document gave an exact reproduction of its original, including fonts used, when viewed in Netscape 3.02 and Netscape Communicator 4. In most cases you get an HTML document as output; in some cases, you get an HTML document that uses a GIF document for some of the harder tasks (such as complex tables)."

Although I have only begun to experiment with using this new version, I concur with Michael on the exceptional job Myrmidon does in duplicating the appearance of documents into HTML. It won't replace HTML editors (such as PageMill or BBEdit) for those that need to work more directly with HTML code. But it is a boon for those who want to get a pleasing-looking web page up and running with a minimum of effort.
