Motorola Xoom 2 shows up in Carphone Warehouse Ireland
The Wi-Fi-only model will be here before Christmas, for €400, according to an Irish Carphone Warehouse catalogue. And there's no ICS.
Good news: the Motorola Xoom 2 will be here before Christmas. At least, if you live in Ireland. And are just after the Wi-Fi-only model. And aren't too bothered about Ice Cream Sandwich. Well, it's not bad news.
A snap of the catalogue leaked to Engadget, with the headline: "Give something special this Christmas." So it looks like we'll see the new tablet in Europe before the year is out.
But the big shock is there's no Ice Cream Sandwich on board, which is a bit of a bummer. Instead we get Android 3.2, which is a shame. Someone tweeted from the official Motorola Twitter account last week that it'll update its newer devices to the ICS version of Android six weeks after Google releases the final build.
Google doesn't seem to be getting its money's worth out of its Motorola acquisition either. Why not equip devices with the latest version of the software when they launch? It makes no sense.
It's also the Wi-Fi-only version of the Xoom 2 that's shown up in the catalogue, so we may have to wait for the 3G model. The screen is 8.2 inches across, which would match the most recent leak of the Media Edition. Previous leaks have suggested the Xoom 2 would have a 10.1-inch screen. It's priced at €399.90 (£345), with 16GB storage and no 3G.
The Xoom 2 Media Edition, meanwhile, looks closer to 7 inches in previous leaks, but nothing is official yet. There's no official launch date of the Xoom 2, but we're pencilling it in for before Christmas.
