Motorola U9: Hands-on with the Cadbury's phone
If Cadbury's made a phone it would definitely look like this -- have a taste of Motorola's chocolatey U9
Okay, hands up, it isn't actually a Cadbury's phone, but if Britain's favourite mass-market chocolatiers did make one it would certainly look like this. The Motorola U9 is similar to Motorola's smooth Pebl phone -- a clamshell, not a candybar, sadly -- but this Dairy-Milk-purple lozenge is a little smaller.
Underneath its glossy exterior, which also comes in black, lies an OLED display and touch-sensitive keys that only appear when you're listening to music. Open the U9 up and you're presented with a medium-sized screen and flat keypad.
Although we were dubious at first about the keypad, it's proved easy to use so far, due to the raised ridges that divide the keys up. The interface is also easier to use than we feared, and it's fast too, with no noticeable lag when opening apps.
There's 25MB of onboard memory and a microSD card slot, stereo Bluetooth and a music player that supports a variety of formats, including MP3 and AAC. There's also a 2-megapixel camera that seems fine for MMS messages and small prints.
Our first impressions of the U9 are good -- it's a cute little phone that does the basics well. If you'd like to buy it you can find it on several networks for free on a monthly contract, or on pay as you go for about £90. Expect a full review soon. -Andrew Lim
