Following up on yesterday's initial report on troubleshooting Netscape 6: Preferences amnesia Several readers report problems with Netscape 6 failing to remember preferences settings. For example, Lynn Rardin writes: "Netscape 6 won't remember the main window position upon quitting if the position is too far to the left in the upper left corner of the desktop." Dual monitor issues We've received several reports of problems with dual monitor setups, where Netscape 6 windows open in the "wrong" monitor or are sized for one monitor but open in the other. AIM bug? Chad Lockey states: "1) Sign onto AIM from Netscape; 2) Create and invite someone (even yourself) to a chat room; 3) Click on Room Info once the chat window has opened up. Now try to close the info window... there's no way to do it. You can't quit... you can't open a window... nothing." Disable RAM Doubler to get Netscape to install? Neil Lee found that disabling RAM Doubler 9 eliminated the installation problems he was having. DoorStop conflict? Will Santillo writes: "When trying to go to a secured site to log in (Banking or Stock Trading) with DoorStop set to deny all, Netscape 6 either quits or is unable to load page. Turning off Doorstop allows the load of page." Netscape saved page glitch? I saved a Web page as an HTML document in Netscape 6. It later re-opened fine in Netscape 6. However, when I tried to open it in Netscape 4.7.6, it failed, claiming that a plug-in was needed (this was a page that clearly used no plug-ins). Profiles This MacFixIt Forums posting describes a potential Profiles problem in Netscape 6. Our Netscape 6 QuickTopic now has close to 100 postings, covering a< variety of problems and work-arounds. Have mercy A reader notes: "Netscape is a 'commercial' version of an open-source web browser project called Mozilla. As bugs are fixed, a new version is created. The latest build can be downloaded here. I think you'll find that not only is the original Mozilla browser more stable, it's also faster and smaller than the Netscape 6 release. As an open-source project, Mozilla relies on the public to help report bugs...and to fix them. All programmers are invited to review the code and contribute a patch."
