More signs point to Intel-based Surface Pro 3 unveiling next week

Microsoft says mention of a Surface Pro 3 camera on a Support page is just a typo -- not a hint to a new Surface Pro tablet.

Microsoft might unveil more than just a small Surface tablet at an event next week.

Microsoft posted a Support page to its site that mentioned the "Surface Pro 3 camera." The page itself discussed how to add recording support for H.264 in the Surface Pro 3. Microsoft later said the page contained a typo and updated it to remove mention of the Surface Pro 3.

"The [knowledge base] is in reference to generic H.264 video updates for the Windows ecosystem, as evidenced by the 'applies to' section on the page," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "To avoid any confusion, we've updated the KB article to correct the typo and better convey the information as intended."

Microsoft is planning an event on May 20 where it's expected to unveil a smaller Surface tablet. The Support page revelation, however, follows a report last week from CNET, citing sources that said the software giant is planning a new slate that will run Intel's Haswell chipset. That device will be announced in addition to the smaller slate, according to the source.

The Surface Pro tablet has run into its fair share of fans and detractors. The device runs Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system and supports a cover that doubles as a keyboard. It has yet to hit iPad-like proportions of popularity, but Microsoft is still hopeful that can change.
