More on the DVD Player 2.7 update

CNET staff
Several users reported that the DVD Player 2.7 installer (see yesterday's coverage) just plain refused to run on their machines. Two users reported success bypassing the installer and extracting all the files with TomeViewer then manually placing them in the appropriate folders. One user who took this approach wrote that he impressed by the performance improvement with the new software. Another user noted that there are several completely new files in this update, "DVD Navigation Manager ATI" and "DVD Navigation Manager NV." We have yet to hear of any significant problems with this update, except for the installation hassles. However, we have gotten quite a few comments praising the bug fixes and the performance improvements. (Thanks, Neil Max, Kin Man Hui, and others.)

Update: Murray Spittles writes: "I got around the Apple DVD Player 2.7 installer problem by restarting with only Mac OS 9.1 base files loaded.

Update: Michael Kincaid writes: "DVD Navigation Manager ATI and DVD Navigation Manager NV are different versions for ATI and NVidia. Thus, users installing by hand should be sure to delete the old DVD Navigation Manager (as the installer script does) because it's been superseded by the two new files."
