More on T-Mobile's 4G hardware announcements
T-Mobile announced a few new devices that will take advantage of its HSPA+42 "4G" network. Here are more specs of the announced devices.
SAN FRANCISCO--Cole Brodman, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile, took the opportunity to reveal a couple of new devices at GigaOM's Mobilize conference in San Francisco: the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Amaze. Both handsets are slated to run on T-Mobile's upgraded HSPA+ 42 network, which promises 4G-like speeds that are faster than most home Internet speeds.
We've seen the Galaxy S II before at a Samsung press event last month, but T-Mobile has spruced it up with HSPA+42 speeds. To take advantage of this speed, T-Mobile has bundled the phone with Netflix, Samsung Media Hub, and T-Mobile TV. As for the HTC Amaze, T-Mobile boasts that it has the "most advanced camera of any smartphone." It has an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, a backside illuminated sensor, zero shutter lag, dual LED flash, and a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor. The camera is equipped with plenty of features: SmartShot, PerfectPics, SweepShot, ClearShot HDR, and BurstShot to name a few. Two new features are SmartShot and PerfectPics. SmartShot captures five photos and creates the best shot with smiles and no blinking, and PerfectPics is a separate album in the gallery that floats the best pics to the top. The HTC Amaze runs on Android 2.3.4, and will be preloaded with T-Mobile TV, HTC Watch, and more. It has a 4.3-inch qHD super LCD display and NFC support.
The Galaxy S II will be $229.99 with a two-year contract, and the HTC Amaze will retail for $259.99 with a two-year contract as well. Both phones will be available October 12.
T-Mobile says that HSPA+42 has an average of 8Mbps download speeds and peak speeds of 20Mbps. T-Mobile has also announced the Sonic 4G mobile hot spot, which will provide Wi-Fi for up to five devices and has the file-sharing capability of up to 32GB worth of files.
