More on .Mac iDisk file corruption

CNET staff

Yesterday we reported that several users on .Mac's paid-access-only discussion boards are reporting data corruption issues when uploading text documents, images, and other files to their iDisk. On affected systems, if the file contains text, some of the text becomes gibberish; if the file is a JPEG image, it is unviewable or displays very oddly (large swashes of random color and static).

MacFixIt reader Cortland Haws offers some additional insight on what may be causing the issue:

"In relation to the .Mac iDisk Problems that many are having, it appears that it may have to do with the .Mac servers and them having problems with maintaining the WebDAV protocol. Specifically, there are situations where the synchronization from the mounted image and the WebDAV mount are not being kept properly synched. It could look, from the mount point, like a new copy of a file is on, but viewing it from another connection (homepage.mac.com) it's not there yet or ever at all."
