More on Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 synch adjust

CNET staff

Yesterday we reported that Final Cut Pro 3.0.4, the latest update to Apple's non-linear digital video editing application, disables the critical "Synch Adjust" functionality. Synch Adjust allows Final Cut Pro to keep unlocked digital audio (such as that generated by the Canon XL-1) synchronized with the video.

Douglass Mann now reports that the problem may be associated with upgrading to QuickTime 6.1, released earlier this month:

"Quicktime 6.1 appears to be the cause of major capturing problems here. We do capturing of analog material using serial control of BVW betacam recorders and firewire control of DV-CAM, all using SMPTE code."

"After suddenly losing capture reliability on the iMacDV (way out of sync or capture files with corrupt video) I reinstalled on another computer (TiBook), same problems. Installed on a 14" iBook that still had QT 6.02 on it, and the problems are gone."

So it appears, from the several reports we have received, that QuickTime 6.1 and Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 cannot co-exist for synchronization adjust functionality. We have received reports of Final Cut Pro 3.0.2 working with QuickTime 6.1, and Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 working with QuickTime 6.0.2, but no reports indicating success with the latest versions of both components.

It should also be noted that this issue only affects owners of Canon cameras, as others do not need to use the Sync Adjust in Final Cut Pro.
