More on AirPort -3278 errors with Lucent cards

In a follow-up to our previous coverage (see one and two), John DeMillion suggests that the best fix for -3278 errors with Lucent cards is to revert to AirPort 1.2. He writes: "Although other workarounds exist for this error, the most reliable appears to be using AirPort 1.2, which works fine with version 1.3 base stations. On my system, the Lucent Silver [or Gold] card shows up on the desktop and everything seems to be okay, until you turn on AppleTalk. At that point, the PowerBook goes into a very long pause. I came upon my solution during a new hard disk install on a PowerBook. I had the freedom to completely overwrite the hard disk multiple times during testing, and tried clean installs, clean preferences, zapped PRAM, etc. Nothing made any permanent difference until I reverted to AirPort 1.2. The card has been working flawlessly ever since."
