Spell Catcher and EZNote conflict Wayne Clodfelter (running Mac OS 8.1 on a PowerCenter) reports that EZNote worked fine with the Spell Catcher 1.6.x. However, interactive checking with the new Spell Catcher 8 blanks the menus in EZNote. An apparent work-around was to turn off interactive checking for the Finder. This worked when the Finder was the active application. However, when Wayne later brought up EZNote while Netscape was frontmost, the EZNote menus were blank, once again.

Portfolio 4.1 fixes QT conflict Previously, we reported that Extensis Portfolio 4.0 did not work with QuickTime 4.0. Neil Herber informs us that the recently released Portfolio 4.1 update fixes this.

ThrustWare and sound level Patrick Mead-Robins writes that, after installing Mac ThrustWare 2.0, the sound levels on his Mac were set to maximum. The ThrustWare Driver overrides the Monitors & Sound setting.

Update: Brad Sawatzky replies: "This is not so much a bug as a badly configured default setting. When you first install ThrustWare 2.0, the 'default' settings file (the one that is active if the software can't find a match for the currently running program) tells the Mac to set the volume to maximum. Thus whenever you run a program that doesn't have an associated settings file (e.g., the Finder), you get the behavior Patrick noticed. The fix is to edit the 'default' strokes file and set the sound level to 'As is.'"
