More instances of the iDisk causing delays for open/save dialog boxes

We continue to cover an issue where the presence of a mounted iDisk can cause significant delays in the appearance of open/save dialog boxes.

Users experiencing this problem will notice that it takes an unusually long time -- 10 to 20 seconds in some cases -- for the "Save As..." dialog box to appear after selecting the option from the "File" menu in various applications.

MacFixIt reader Lance Moody is the latest to report on the problem:

"I wanted to mention to you a problem that I have now confirmed with Apple's iDisk. I love iDisk and I like keeping it mirrored on my desktop and automatically synched.

"Apparently having the iDisk on the desktop can cause severe problems with the open/save dialog, causing very long delays those dialogs appearance. Sometimes the delay is just an annoying few seconds, other times it is unbearably long with the beach ball spinning and spinning.

"I have also noticed delays in World of Warcraft, with the game locking up and stopping for several seconds before resuming.

"Turning off desktop mirroring of the iDisk completely eliminates these problems."

Meanwhile, MacFixIt reader Barry Weber writes:

"I have experienced insane slowdowns in the open file / save file / print dialog boxes. They seem to be more obvious to the CS Suite. The problem improved dramatically (almost went away) when I turned off the iDisk syncing on the machines."

As mentioned by both of these readers, turning off "iDisk Syncing" (an option accessible via the .Mac pane of System Preferences under the iDisk tab) will immediately resolve these issues in most cases.
