Users have begun to experience issues when syncing their recently updated Macs with Apple's MobileMe sync service. Since the 10.5.7 update, many syncing issues such as the sync button being grayed out, registered machines not appearing in MobileMe's sync data, and iCal sync support have been reported.

Apple Support Discussions user "Paul Westlake1" writes:

"Looking for some advice: since updating my machines (2 x iMac and a MBP) to 10.5.7, I am having all manners of issues with MobileMe syncing.

My main iMac will not allow me to sync at all. When I click the Sync this machine button in preferences, it deselects on its own.

None of my machines appear in the Registered list either on this machine--When I try to register it, it just get the spinning cog icon.

My MBP seemed to be working, but when I added a calendar entry on my iPhone, it instantly appeared on Web MobileMe, but when I sync the MBP now, it fails on Calendar,  telling me to contact support."

Possible fixes
Currently there is not an official fix from Apple for computers failing to register their Mac in MobileMe's sync data. However, Apple Support Discussions user "karlskidmore" reports that the problem has been escalated to Apple and they have passed the situation to engineering. Although the below fix may not solve each of the issues described here (or the mix of them), it is a good place to start with syncing issues.

Reset your SyncServices folder. As described in this MacFixIt article a few weeks ago, resetting your SyncServices folder can alleviate many of the syncing issues that can occur with your Mac.

To reset your SyncServices folder:

1. Open iSync.
2. From the iSync menu bar, select Preferences > Reset Sync History.

If you are still experiencing syncing issues or cannot open iSync:

1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities).
2. In the Terminal window that opens, type:
"/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync.pl full"
3. Press Return.
4. After the operation completes, quit Terminal.
Note: Apple strongly discourages manual removal of the SyncServices folder as it is an essential component of 10.5 Leopard, including syncing with devices and MobileMe.
