The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's dean of admissions has resigned after admitting she "misrepresented" her academic credentials on her resume, the prestigious school said on Thursday. Marilee Jones, a scientist credited with recruiting many women to MIT during her nearly 10 years in the job, had said in that she had she earned degrees from Albany Medical College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union College, but the school was unable to confirm that she had earned those degrees.

"I misrepresented my academic degrees when I first applied to MIT 28 years ago and did not have the courage to correct my resume when I applied for my current job or at any time since," Jones said in a brief statement. She first worked as an administrative assistant at the school and steadily rose to become dean of admissions.
