Mirror's Edge Catalyst delayed ahead of closed beta's launch
Catalyst is delayed until June to provide more time to make adjustments based on the beta.
The release of Mirror's Edge Catalyst has been pushed back two weeks, developer DICE announced today.
Catalyst is now due out on June 7 in North America and June 9 in Europe. It was previously scheduled to be out on May 24 and 26 respectively in the two regions.
In a post on the official website, design director Erik Odeldahl stated that the game's social play features -- things like creating time trials, leaderboards and so on -- are a key part of the game. DICE is making use of a "brand-new online technology" to power all of this, and it's part of what's going to be tested in the closed beta. The delay will afford DICE the necessary time to make adjustments based on beta feedback.
"We also want to make sure we have the opportunity and time to address player feedback from the Closed Beta," Odeldahl says. "That is why we will give ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game, with a new release date for Mirror's Edge Catalyst of June 7th (NA) and June 9th (EU). We're confident that these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as amazing as possible for you the players."
The beta is set to kick off tomorrow, April 22. Registrations for it were briefly opened last week; they were closed in less than an hour.
Controversially, it was recently revealed that certain abilities are locked to start the game. (The first game offered all of Faith's moves right out of the gate.) DICE says this is to help players learn her moveset. Another change from the first game is the removal of guns, which we recently discussed with DICE.
