Minecraft is big business, but the financial figures are proving just how big the business is. It transpires that its creator, Markus Persson — better known as Notch to his fans — made the equivalent of AU$97.5 million in just licensing fees for the game.

Speaking to Reddit, Notch was equal parts humbled and surprised by his sudden wealth, calling it "weird as f***".

All of [a] sudden, as a result of how modern society works, I managed to somehow earn a s***-ton of money. I still like playing games and programming, and once I had the latest computer and consoles, there really isn't much more to spend the money on than travelling.

Notch plans to donate some cash to charity, with children's causes and information freedom both being priorities for him. Other than that? "I might eventually get a driver's license so I can buy a car," he said.
