Migration Assistant downgrades some software components

CNET staff

We've previously covered issues where some files are not properly transferred by the Mac OS X Migration Assistant.

Now MacFixIt reader Gabriel Dorado reports that performing a system migration from one Mac OS X 10.4.7 system to a new system, also with Mac OS X 10.4.7, will result in downgrading of several software components, failing to transfer these versions in the migration process:

  • Java 1.3.1 & 1.4.2 Release 2
  • J2SE 5.0 Release 4
  • QuickTime Pro 7.1.2
  • iTunes 6.0.5

Gabriel writes:

"Just migrate a full disk with such versions (even on Mac OS X 10.4.7) to a brand new one with Mac OS X 10.4.7 and such software will be downgraded to previous versions. You can confirm that checking on 'Apple/System Preferences/Software Update.'

All updates can be re-downloaded without consequence.
