Microsoft's SkyDrive app comes to Xbox 360
It's part of a wider app roll-out for the Xbox 360. You should expect to see a dedicated SkyDrive app appear on your console later today.
Microsoft is launching a dedicated SkyDrive app for the Xbox 360.
At 10 a.m. PT today, you should expect to see the app appear on your Xbox 360 dashboard. In a blog post, Dan Somrack, program manager for SkyDrive, writes that the new app will link the cloud to your television and Xbox, connecting any file from your Windows desktop, Mac, smartphone, tablet or the Web to your console.
In addition, Windows Phone users can connect their mobile device to their Xbox 360. Images will now automatically sync between both devices, in case you want to show a friend a photo or create a slideshow on a large screen.
The SkyDrive app supports Kinect voice and gesture control as well as controller input, although voice activation is not currently available in every language.When the app goes live, just turn on your Xbox and choose SkyDrive, and that's all there is to it.
Last month, Microsoft claimed that SkyDrive usage has doubled in the last six months since the company released its first batch of synchronization applications to make managing files easier in both the Windows File Explorer and OS X's Finder feature.
The SkyDrive app launch is part of a wider roll-out of apps and content for the Xbox platform. Earlier this year, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Microsoft said it was adding over 30 new content parters over 2012 and 2013, including Napster, Univision and Comedy Central Stand Up.
