Microsoft's Paint brings 3D creation to all, even in VR
After 30 years, Microsoft's Paint gets a 3D lift.
Microsoft is painting in a new dimension.
The tech giant showed off an update to Microsoft Paint on at Microsoft's Windows 10 event in New York. The program jumped from two- to three dimensional drawings and will be able import scans from cameras and Minecraft. It'll also let you draw and make freeform 3D objects. The "Doodle Sketch" tool instantly turns any 2D drawings into 3D creations.
Microsoft's general manager Megan Saunders demonstrated the new tool by taking a photoscan of a sand castle with Windows Capture 3D, and uploading it to Paint 3D.
"I just made a 3D object using my real world for inspiration," Saunders said.
Artists can also bring their creations to life with 3D printers. Microsoft pointed out that 3D creations could be used for business, and used in Powerpoint.

The 3D software will also be integrated with Microsoft's HoloLens, Windows' holographic augmented reality experience. In a demonstration, Taj Reid from Microsoft's Experience Design showed Saunders' customized sand castle on a shelf in his holographic room.
