Microsoft Word 2004: Page Numbering bug

Microsoft Word 2004: Page Numbering bug

CNET staff

MacFixIt reader Scott Rose reports a page numbering bug in Microsoft Word 2004 (part of the Office 2004 suite) that affects PDF documents if the "quick preview" feature is turned off in the print dialog box.

Scott writes:

"To reproduce this bug, launch Microsoft Word 2004 and open any document. Bring up the print dialog box and turn OFF the 'quick preview' feature in the print dialog box. Print that document. Now the "quick preview" feature is turned off for your next document, where you will see the bug take place. Create a brand new document. In the header or footer, insert the autotext 'Page X of Y'. Go to print the document (the 'quick preview' feature should still be off), and when you save the document as a PDF, you will see that instead of your document saying the following for a 3-page document:

"It will mistakenly say:

"The workaround to fix this is turn back on the 'quick preview' feature before saving the document as a PDF file.
