Microsoft sets 9/29 as new date for Xbox One launch in China
Following an earlier cancellation of today's launch, Microsoft resets the release date for the console in 37 cities in China for $600.
Microsoft's attempt to sell the Xbox One console in China has been anything but smooth.
When China finally lifted the 14-year-old ban on console sales last year, Microsoft partnered with a local company in order to sell the console there. The launch was set for today, but that was not to be.
The company unexpectedly canceled the launch two days ago but did say that it will compensate preorder customers with two free games.
Microsoft rescheduled the launch for September 29. That will still make the Xbox One the first console to be sold in China since 2000 when officials decided the devices were causing irreparable harm to children and adolescents.
The Xbox One is set for release in 4,000 stores in 37 cities. It will cost 3,699 RMB ($600) without Kinect and 4,299 RMB ($700) with Kinect.
The Xbox One will launch with 10 government-approved games, including Forza Motorsport 5 and Dance Central Spotlight. There are plans to bring 70 other games, such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection, into China as well.
