Microsoft Office v. X for Mac Update 10.1.9 (2006-12-19) [#2]: Problems quitting apps

A few readers are reporting problems quitting Microsoft Office v.X applications after applying the 2006-12-19 update (10.1.9) -- particularly PowerPoint. Interestingly enough, the update intends to fix an issue where PowerPoint unexpectedly quits when opening presentations.

One reader writes:

"I did an install of (2006-12-19) but did not uninstall recent update that was pulled by Microsoft. The install went fine.

"Now PowerPoint still starts up normally, but now it won't quit. Tried quitting from the dock, ignored command. Tried quitting from menu bar, no go there either. Force Quit has to be used to quit PowerPoint now."
