Microsoft Office 98 conflict with 10/100 Ethernet drivers

CNET staff
We have gotten two reports in the last few days of a problem with Microsoft Office 98 and 10/100 Ethernet drivers:

Dayna Timothy England writes that "Office 98 and Dayna 10/100 Ethernet drivers are incompatible. Excel will crash when opening a document, and Word will crash upon quitting. This was verified with Dayna technical support. They have no fix at this time. Their suggestion was to revert to Office 4.2.1, or turn off their extensions when using Office 98."

Sonic Carlo Casaccia writes that "Microsoft tech support confirmed a conflict between Office 98 (Word and PowerPoint in particular) and Sonic's PCI 10/100 Ethernet driver (version 1.3). What happens is that when the driver is active, Word and PowerPoint quit with a Type 1 error just after clicking the mouse a few times."

Apple Data Detectors and Ethernet On a possibly related note, Doug Smith writes: "Apple's Data Detectors has a conflict with the Farallon PCI-10 extension used with their PCI Ethernet cards. Renaming the Apple Data Detectors Extension to something like "~Apple Data Detectors Extension" so it loads after the Farallon extension seems to fix it."
