Microsoft Office 2004 11.3.3 (#3): Repeated crash fixes; misc. issues

Users continue to report repeated crashes from Office applications after applying the 11.3.3 updater.

MacFixIt reader Andreas writes:

"After the Office 11.3.3 fix all my office programs crash. I got at 'update unsuccessful' when I did the update."

Leen Schoen adds:

"After the latest update ( Office 2004), Word crashes by every opening of any document. I re-installed the update, fixed permissions, restarted, nothing works. No Word for me at the moment."

Fixes

Re-install from original media, then re-update Unfortunately, one of the more successful fixes for this issue appears to be the tedious process of re-installing Microsoft Office 2004 from the original CD then re-attempting the 11.3.3. update.

MacFixIt reader Richard O'Regan is one reader who reported success with this workaround:

"I was getting the same problem ? Entourage 11.3.3 crashed on launch. I reinstalled the original Entourage 11.0.0 (2004) from the install disk. That program would not launch at all.

"But, after autoupdate re-updated the program to 11.3.3, Entourage began working again. The crashes also made some mischief with the database, so that had to be rebuilt. But everything seems to be working now.

Restart Exchange server Some users have reported that simply restarting the Exchange server to which Entourage clients are connected can resolve crashing and other issues.

MacFixIt reader Bill writes:

"Our IT guys rebooted the Exchange server, and that seems to have solved the problem several people had with Entourage. So it's probably not a problem with the update. Thought I'd let you know since I sent a note about this yesterday. It's not clear to me whether the Office update (or some update to the Exchange server software) might have triggered this."

Misc. issues Some users are reporting other miscellaneous issues with teh update for which we are seeking confirmation.

Larry Rymal writes:

"Not sure why, but suddenly, my rules no longer work as they previously did, assigning a junk mail status to messages that are not junk. These are pre-existing, and well-established rules. Address book is intact. Junk mail status assigned to some of the messages with users who are in the Address Book."

Jarbais Machioni reports:

"After both updates (# 1 and 2) it replaces Entourage by Mail as default mail, despite the preferences show Entourage as the default mail."
