Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.1 (#6): "Network or file permission error"
A number of users are reporting an issue where, when saving Word 2004 documents to a server, Word will sporadically return the following error:
"There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost."
MacFixIt reader Rob Steward writes:
"I provide service for two separate law firms which are both having this issue. For any offices which deal with dozens or hundreds of Word files daily, this bug is a killer.
"Once this error occurs, saving any changes to the server becomes almost impossible. The error then tends to spread to other users as well.
"Mac OS X 10.4.3 does not fix the problem, neither does Office 11.2.1, even though my research shows that both Apple and Microsoft are aware of the problem. I've found this issue discussed in at least two online forums for Mac administrators. There's no workaround.
"It's not a server OS issue; it doesn't matter whether the server is Tiger or not. It's the Tiger client which causes the problem."
This issue does not occur when client systems are running Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther).
