Michael Keaton brought Bruce Wayne back to the silver screen in Tim Burton's 1989 film "Batman," and until Christian Bale came along, was the face of Batman for the modern fan. Now, a full 25 years after his portrayal of Batman, Keaton plays a superhero once more in "Birdman," or more accurately, he plays a struggling actor who played the iconic superhero Birdman. Close enough.
Fox Searchlight Pictures released a teaser trailer for the film on Thursday, which features a good mix of drama and action. Oh, and Keaton shows that he can still do a mean superhero voice. According to the film's synopsis, Keaton plays an actor who struggles to recover his family, his career, and himself in the days leading up to opening night of his Broadway show. The film is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu ("Babel," "21 Grams"), and features a stellar cast, including co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone.
While we don't know much more than the basic plot at this time (and that it apparently has nothing to do with the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon "Birdman" or the Adult Swim favorite "Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law), it looks like "Birdman" is going to be pretty stellar, and we're getting excited to learn more about it. "Birdman" is set to hit theaters in the US this October, followed by a January 2015 release in the UK.
