The 2011 Frankfurt auto show will see the unveiling of a new model from Mazda, a model that shows the future of all cars from the company. The CX-5, based on the Minagi concept shown earlier this year in Geneva, comes to the market with new design language, fuel-saving technology, and cabin electronics.

The CX-5 will be a small crossover vehicle slotting in below the current CX-7, and will be sold globally. The exterior shows off Mazda's new design language Kodo, which means "soul of motion" in English. Replacing Mazda's earlier Nagare design, Kodo involves an upright polyhedral grille and a pronounced hood rising up above the front fenders.

The sides of the new vehicle show off smooth door panels with contour lines at the base. It is a more conventional look than the Nagare design.

Mazda announced that the European version of the CX-5 will be available with either a direct-injection 2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine or a 2.2-liter diesel engine. In the U.S., Mazda will likely only offer the gasoline engine.

The interior photo of the car reveals a new electronics interface for Mazda, with a dial on the console surrounded by buttons. That hardware should control infotainment functions on the LCD, which is shown mounted high on the dashboard. The photo also shows dials to either side of the LCD, which look like traditional radio dials for volume and tuning.

The Frankfurt auto show takes place in mid-September.
