When Tom Dart tried to download MathType 3.6 from the Design Science site, he unexpectedly got a new (June 30, 2000) 3.7 version instead. The link on the Web page says it is version 3.6a, but MathType 3.7 Installer is what is actually downloaded. [Actually, we had problems with the download stalling out when we tried it.] However, the MathType 3.7 Installer would not accept Tom's 3.6 registration number (again contrary to what is stated on the Web site). He contacted Design Science about this and they replied: "MathType 3.7 for Macintosh is the newest version. It fixes some problems with 3.6. It is a free upgrade for any person with MathType 3.6; with it you get a new registration number. Yours is <xxx>. Currently, MathType 3.6 is only available on CD, and MathType 3.7 is only available to download. After we've sold all our copies of 3.6, 3.7 will be available on CD." The Read Me file for 3.7 adds: "MathType 3.7 includes an option to create equations in a way that prints much better than before on non-PostScript (e.g., ink-jet) printers." Several other enhancements and fixes are also listed.
