Mathematica and Mac OS 8.5 problems: "fonts disappear"

CNET staff
A Wolfram web page describes two bugs involving Mathematica and Mac OS 8.5. (Thanks, Selwyn Hollis.)
Appearance bug Last February, we described a bug in Mac OS 8.0/8.1's Appearance Manager that caused problems for Mathematica. Wolfram released patch to address the issue. The web page suggests that an Appearance bug remains with Mac OS 8.5. However, while the patch "works with Appearance Extension versions 1.0.0, 1.0.1 , 1.0.2, and 1.0.3, it does not work with the Appearance Extension included with Mac OS 8.5."

Printing bug The page also covers a printing and display problem "which does not yet have a fix. In some cases, printing from Mathematica under Mac OS 8.5 will cause printing to hang and possibly your fonts to disappear. In these cases, all of the Macintosh applications currently running (including the Finder) will not display any more text." They suggest downloading a MathFonts suitcase as a possible help.
