Maine iBook initiative evaluated A Wired News article reports that while 7th graders in Maine certainly appreciate their new iBooks, problems with teach training are throwing a wrench in the plan's goals: "In this rural outpost, Gov. Angus King's noble project has yet to reach its potential. Teachers have had scant training and the students seem disappointed in how little they use the laptops. 'We generally all assume that everybody has a computer and knows all about computers,' said a school principal. More.

Qualcomm dabbles in cell phone USB According to a CNET report, Cell phone chipmaker Qualcomm announced Monday it is licensing technology that lets cell phones connect directly to printers, cameras and PCs or any other device with a universal serial bus port. Qualcomm licensed USB On-The-Go technology from Irvine, Calif.-based developer TransDimension. More.

Palm: "We're not scared of Dell" In a ZDNN article, officials from PalmSource (the software division of the Palm dynasty) downplay Dell's potential threat to the company's dominance in the PDA market. David Nagel, PalmSource president and CEO, in London today to promote Palm OS 5, said: "Dell certainly will have an impact in the handheld computing market... but mainly because of their distribution and sales [expertise]. They will bring Microsoft PocketPC pricing closer to that of Palm [OS-based devices] but even Dell can't close that gap completely." More.
