Mail.app crashing frequently? Try resetting Junk Mail filter

If you are experiencing a repeated sequence of events when checking or downloading mail in Apple's Mail.app where the application freezes and system responsiveness grinds to a halt, you may be experiencing an issue with the junk mail filter.

1. In some cases, this issue can be solved via the following simple steps:
2. Launch Mail.app and turn of automatic e-mail checking routines if present
3. Go to the Preferences item under the "Mail" menu
4. Click on the "Junk Mail" icon
5. Click the "Reset" button

Note that you will lose any training you have performed for your junk mail filter after this button is clicked, so you should attempt other workarounds.
