According to CNET, a key figure for standards body the Wi-Fi Alliance says the wireless networking industry will surpass the revenue of household products such as Budweiser beer by 2006. The story quotes Dennis Eaton, chairman of the alliance and a marketing manager at Wi-Fi chip maker Intersil who noted the wireless networking industry, which consists mostly of 802.11b-based products, is expected to bring in $2 billion in revenue this year. Judge may force Java in Windows ZDNN reports that during the first day of an antitrust hearing that likely will last all week, U.S. District Judge Frederick Motz gave mixed signals about what he was thinking, saying that Sun's suggestion was 'attractive' but could be self-serving. Sun Microsystems' suggestion "a federal judge on Tuesday that its Java programming language had been so harmed by Microsoft that it must be included with every copy of Windows XP." Meanwhile, Reuters reports that the judge suggested that Sun Microsystems Inc. go directly to trial on whether to force Microsoft Corp. to carry Sun's Java program, and seek damages. More.
