MacTell Vision3D Pro driver and Number Nine Imagine cards: a follow-up

CNET staff
Last August, we reported: "MacTell Imagine Patch patches the MacTell Vision3D Pro driver (a control panel called MacTell 5.2.2) to work with Number Nine's Imagine 128 video cards."

Donna Riccelli (Technical Services and Support Manager for Number Nine) now writes: "Number Nine has found that the MacTell Vision 3D Pro driver (MacTell 5.2.2) still does not work with the Imagine 128 4Mb card. The Formac GA-Software version 5.2.2 does work with the Imagine Series 1 & 2 Power Mac, but the latest Bios version is needed for the Imagine Series 1 cards. The latest Bios versions for the Imagine Series 1 cards are 1.4.9 for the 4Mb card and 1.4.8 for the 8Mb card. Formac's GA-Software 5.2.2 (which appears to be a close relative of the MacTell driver) can be downloaded from the Formac Web site."

Update: Jerry Kindall writes: "Ms. Riccelli is right that the MacTell driver doesn't work with the Imagine 128 4 MB card. That's why I made the patch. After the patch, it does work. That's the exact card I have and the patched MacTell driver works fine with it. When I made the patch, though, Formac hadn't released their version of this control panel. Now that that's available, I suggest everyone use it instead. The Formac and MacTell drivers are very closely related indeed, which is why I was able to create a patch. This is not surprising considering that Formac manufactures the cards for MacTell."
