Macintosh clone service and support

CNET staff

We have received a number of requests recently for repair outlets that will handle now-defunct Macintosh clones including those from Power Computing, DayStar, Motorola, and others.

Leon Maurer writes "Do you have any information where I can find and purchase replacement parts for a Power Computing Mac Clone? Specifically, a Power Supply for a PowerWave 604?"

UPDATE: MacFixIt reader Steven Elman suggests http://www.preowned.com as a resource for power supplies and other parts that may be useful to clone owners. Meanwhile, Robert Hebertson notes that most clones were built using off the shelf PC components. "The Power Computing models used standard ATX power supplies. You should be able to replace dead PCC power supplies with just about any 250 watt ATX power supply sold by a PC component vendor for around US$30."

If you have a suggestion, please drop us a line at late-breakers@macfixit.com.
