MacInTax and TaxCut updates

MacInTax update: a follow-up Last time, we mentioned that some people were able to get the announced MacInTax 1998 updates, while others could not (remember, get them via selecting One-click Updates from the Help menu within MacInTax, not from the MacInTax web site). Raymond Christensen offers one potential solution: make sure you do an Easy Install of MacInTax. Raymond writes that, "with a Minimal Install, when I would click for an update, it would inform me that an update was available, but no update was performed. After I dragged the Forms folder to the MacInTax 98 folder on my hard drive the update went with out a hitch." Kimo Yap reported similar results.
Update: Intuit has two similar pages. One says that "no updates are currently available" for 1998. The other indicates updates are available. Daniel Morgan claims that the updates have been pulled and notes that the latter page is no longer linked from the main Program Updates page. Gann Matsuda confirms this. Maybe this explains some of the confusion here. I hope so.

TaxCut update A Kiplinger TaxCut web page lists availability of an update for its 1998 version. "To update your copy of TaxCut for the 1998 tax year, open TaxCut and choose Update TaxCut from the Tools menu. The program will do the rest." Another web page describes what the update fixes and addresses other work-arounds. It states: "The update for the 1998 tax year Macintosh and Macintosh Deluxe editions of TaxCut fixes all of the calculation errors listed below and includes all the final IRS forms." (Thanks, Dave Ahrens.)

Update: Chris Culbertson writes that you can also get the update from the Web via this web page or ftp site. Brett Chapman could not get the update to work; it kept giving out of memory errors on his G3 desktop.
